This magnificent eagle is in the tympanum of the pediment atop the portico of the Federal Reserve Building in downtown Chicago. The date of the establishment of the bank in 1914, and the 7-G refers to Chicago being the seventh district. The eagle grasps fasces in its talons. Fasces appears as a bundle of rods tied together, a symbol of authority and power in ancient Rome.
