Chicago Union Station’s North Staircase from South Canal Street to the Great Hall.

Chicago Union Station

A pair of symmetrical staircases connects South Canal Street to the Great Hall of Chicago Union Station. The north staircase is shown here. They mirror designs of colonnades found in the Pantheon in Rome, with pilasters at the corners, and perfectly proportioned columns. The stairs are in Roman travertine and are flanked by restored bronze floor lamps. Coffered ceilings span over them, and bronze chandeliers light the way for travelers.
